What happens with a low Trek turnout at IH

Recommended Posts

Hi IH Team.

Curious to know what IH does in case of a low turnout to treks. Currently I have signed up for an early November KK (4Nov) trek and it's just 2 individuals yet. Will the trek still continue as planned?

Will IH get a small car for the travel between Basecamp and Dehradun if it is low turnout else the car split (as mentioned on website which is ₹6500 for one way) will be too much for the 2 individuals making it an expensive affair to trek, an activity that is supposed to be low cost for all.

Looking fwd to  know how this is taken care of.

Thanks much

Hi Ramya

Your trek will run as per the schedule. Very rarely do we suspend the groups we open.

In case there are very few trekkers in the group, there will be changes in the way the trek is organised. You will experience more DIY elements in the trek, which is a unique experience in itself.

Bolero is the smallest vehicle we can arrange for a safe travel to the basecamp.

You can carry on with your travel plan. Shefali will join the group 10 days before the trek to guide you with last minute preparation.

Hi Nandana, thanks for reverting. Joshimath is the starting point for Kuari Pass and not Kedarkantha correct.

I believe Kotgaon is the Basecamp for Kedarkantha.  Are there direct buses from Dehra to Kotgaon in case we don't choose India Hikes car pick up

Hi Ramya

Kotgaon is the basecamp for Kedarkantha trek. If there are 3-4 trekkers traveling together, then you can share the cab.

Otherwise, there is a direct bus from Dehradun to Sankri. It costs about 150 rupees. Once you reach Sankri, you can take a shared cab till Kotgaon, which can cost you approximately 500 rupees.
