Recommended Posts

In countries like Hong Kong there are 52 trekking trails with grading 1 to 5 and in week ends minimum 10k people walk , trails are absolutely clean and no vehicle allowed , it takes between 3 to 7 hours . Milestones are kept in all trails , barbecue stations in the middle , no shops no littering absolutely clean . This is ideal for 50 plus , https://www.alltrails.com/hong-kong we may having such group hiking for a week .Is there any easy trail like this

Hi !

It's elating to know about these trails in Hong Kong! While these trails are spectacular, there are trekking trails in India which are highly suitable for people aged 50+ which are equally, if not more , mesmerizing, clean and enchanting. These treks include Valley of flowers, Nag Tibba trek and even the Dayara Bugyal trek where treks can be planned and even executed in a Do It Yourself manner very efficiently. Cheers!

Ramasubramanian, I guess you are talking about hiking trails, not trekking.  I don't think IH is organizing any hiking activities.  I am not sure whether there are any meetup groups available for such day hikes.  Also in India, hiking options are limited, not an option for most of the cities.

Just to be clear, as per my understanding, hiking is an activity where you start from one place and come back to the same place on the same day.  Trekking is an activity where you start from one place and end up in another place and then continue to your next destination on the next day.  It's just my understanding and I may be wrong..

I'm not sure why over 50's require a special category of trail. I'm 61. Last year I walked 4000 kilometers from Mexico to Canada on the Pacific Crest Trail through the High Sierras and Cascades. I just returned from doing a traverse of the Hajar Mountains in Oman climbing 1700 meter cliff faces with a full pack on, I have done high altitude treks in Nepal, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Peru, and Bolivia at 59 and 59 years of age. I do a bit of high intensity interval training and jogging to try and keep some fitness while living in the city, and then do enough treks carrying a pack in the course of a year to remain fit. While my body has slowed down, it still can do any trek that I set out to do. It's mostly a state of mind, not a year or number. There are plenty of 20-30 year olds who are incapable of doing so called "harder" treks because they lack the fitness nor mindset to do so.
